چکیده

Supramolecular materials with noncovalent bonds have attracted much attention due to their exclusive properties differentiating them from materials formed solely by covalent bonds. Especially interesting are rotor molecules of topological complexes that shuttle along a polymer chain. The shuttling of these molecules should greatly improve the tension strength. Our research employs cyclodextrin (CD) as a host molecule, because CD effectively forms polyrotaxanes with polymers. Herein we report the formation of supramolecular hydrogels with an α-CD dimer (α,α-CD dimer) as a topological linker molecule, and a viologen polymer (VP) as the polymer chain. The supramolecular hydrogel of α,α-CD dimer/VP forms a self-standing gel, which does not relax (G' > G'') in the frequency range 0.01-10 rad·s(-1). On the other hand, the supramolecular hydrogel decomposes upon addition of bispyridyl decamethylene (PyC(10)Py) as a competitive guest. Moreover, the β-CD dimer (β,β-CD dimer) with VP does not form a supramolecular hydrogel, indicating that complexation between the C(10) unit of VP and the α-CD unit of the α,α-CD dimer plays an important role in the formation of supramolecular hydrogels.

Supramolecular hydrogels formed by pyrene-terminated poly(ethylene glycol) star polymers through inclusion complexation of pyrene dimers with γ-cyclodextrin.

Novel supramolecular hydrogels were formed between pyrene-terminated poly(ethylene glycol) star polymers and γ-cyclodextrin (γ-CD), through the inclusion complexation of dimers of the pyrene terminals with γ-CD, where γ-CD was directly used as a supramolecular cross-linking reagent without any modification.

Supramolecular hydrogels as a universal scaffold for stepwise delivering Dox and Dox/cisplatin loaded block copolymer micelles.

A general and simple method was presented for preparing supramolecular hydrogels to deliver anticancer drugs. In this system, hydrophobic anticancer drug doxorubicin (Dox) was loaded into poly(ethylene glycol)-b-poly(ε-caprolactone) (PEG-b-PCL) amphiphilic block copolymer micelles by hydrophobic interaction. The drug loaded micelles were then mixed with α-cyclodextrin (α-CD) solution to generat...

Thixotropic Supramolecular Pectin-Poly(Ethylene Glycol) Methacrylate (PEGMA) Hydrogels

Pectin is an anionic, water-soluble polymer predominantly consisting of covalently 1,4-linked α-D-galacturonic acid units. This naturally occurring, renewable and biodegradable polymer is underutilized in polymer science due to its insolubility in organic solvents, which renders conventional polymerization methods impractical. To circumvent this problem, cerium-initiated radical polymerization ...

Redox-responsive self-healing materials formed from host–guest polymers

Expanding the useful lifespan of materials is becoming highly desirable, and self-healing and self-repairing materials may become valuable commodities. The formation of supramolecular materials through host-guest interactions is a powerful method to create non-conventional materials. Here we report the formation of supramolecular hydrogels and their redox-responsive and self-healing properties ...

Supramolecular Nanostructures Based on Cyclodextrin and Poly(ethylene oxide): Syntheses, Structural Characterizations and Applications for Drug Delivery

Cyclodextrins (CDs) have been extensively studied as drug delivery carriers through host–guest interactions. CD-based poly(pseudo)rotaxanes, which are composed of one or more CD rings threading on the polymer chain with or without bulky groups (or stoppers), have attracted great interest in the development of supramolecular biomaterials. Poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) is a water-soluble, biocompati...
